Sports Car Club of Indiana University
Preamble:
The Sports Car Club at IU (SCCIU) is an organization geared to people who have an interest in anything automotive. It is meant to bring together people who share this common interest, and to allow them to share experiences and help people to become more involved in automotive activities.
Article 1: Membership
- Membership is open to all who wish to join.
- There is no fee for joining.
- Members are required to comply with all official club/university policies, as well as all local/state/federal laws.
- Members who refuse to comply with these policies/laws will be issued one (1) warning to comply.
- If after being issued a warning a member’s continued non-compliance will result in ejection from the organization.
Article 2: University Compliance
- As stated above, the club and its members must comply with all university policies as well as local/state/federal laws.
Article 3: Executive Officers
- President
- Works with the university to schedule events.
- Works with other officials to determine official club policies.
- Leads meetings and events.
- In charge of making sure that all club policies comply with university policies.
- Vice President
- Lead meetings/events in the absence of the president.
- Works with other officials to determine official club policies.
- Member relations officer
- Keeps track of club member information (name, email, phone#, etc.).
- Works with other officials to determine official club policies.
- Board members
- In the event that the club’s population grows large enough to require additional officers to ensure policies align with the best interest of the group as a whole; a board will be created.
- Board members would attend official meetings and vote on policies with other officers.
Article 3 section 2: Executive Officer Eligibility and Selection procedures
- In order for a member to become a club officer they must be a student of Indiana University.
- Eligible members must be able to perform the duties associated with the official position they occupy.
- In the event of an open official position, a general call will be given to the club.
- If more than one (1) eligible club member wishes to fill the position an election will be held to determine who will take the position.
- Voting is not required but is strongly encouraged.
- The winner of an election will be determined by majority vote.
- Club officials are subject to the same compliance policies as general members.
- In the event that an officer is unable to fulfill their duties they will be asked to resign the position.
Article 4: Advisor
Article 5: Meetings
- General club meetings will be held at an as of yet undetermined time/location/frequency.
- An inaugural meeting will be held to introduce the club, its officials, policies, goals and club members, as well as offer an opportunity for people to join the club.
- Club officer meetings will be scheduled as needed to discuss club policies, as well as planning general meetings and events.
- Special events will be planned and scheduled by club officials
- A message regarding special events will be distributed via email and at general club meetings with sufficient time to allow club members maximum opportunity to attend and/or volunteer to help with event setup and execution.
Article 6: Elections
- Elections will be held annually, one month after the start of fall classes and as needed to fill vacant positions.
- Votes may be submitted via email or physical ballot.
- Votes will be tallied by current officials under the supervision of an impartial third party.
Article 7: Non-Hazing
- Hazing is strictly prohibited. Hazing shall be defined as any conduct which subjects another person, whether physically, mentally, emotionally, or psychologically, to anything that may endanger, abuse, degrade, or intimidate the person as a condition of association with a group or organization, regardless of the person’s consent or lack of consent.
Article 8: Dues & Budgets
- There are no dues for membership.
Article 9: Finances
- In the case that a club event would require a monetary obligation to participate; the club will be notified as to the cost and deadline for payment (if any).
- It will be the responsibility of the club president to make sure that payment is collected from participating members as well as overseeing any refund policies.
- The organization will not be applying for a student organization account, and any payment required will be strictly to cover costs.
- Personal Gain Clause: This organization shall ethically raise and distribute profits from organizational functions. Individual students may not receive money from a student organization event for personal gain.
- Any additional funds from events will be donated on the club’s behave to a local charity (to be selected prior to any event requiring monetary payment).
Article 10: Amendments
- Amendments to the constitution will be voted on by club officers (including board members if there are any).
- Any member may present an amendment to club officers for consideration and vote.
- Amendments will require a 2/3 vote to pass.
